
1. Headquarter of DES : The Directorate of Economics and Statistics ( DES ) is functioning at state headquarters (BBSR) in the fourth floor of Heads of Dept. Building. It has its Agril. Statistics Division in the 3rd floor and the centralised Computer Centre in the ground floor.

Range Offices : The DES has 3
Regional Offices known as Deputy Director Range Statistics Office one at every Revenue
Divisional Headquarters.The functional jurdiction of the Range offices are coterminous
with the concerned Revenue districts. The revenue districts coming under the perview of
the Range Statical offices are as follows :

District Statistical Offices
District
Statistical Offices ( DSO ) are located at the District hqr. of twenty seven revenue
districts out of thirty revenue districts of the State. In three districts namely Boudh,
Jharsuguda and Deogarh separate Statistical Offices are yet to be opend.
The Phulbani District Statistical Officer is in charge of Boudh District and Sambalpur District Statistical Officer is in charge of Deogarh and Jharsuguda district.
There is no Statistical Set up below the District offices in the
State.
4. Regional Institute of Planning, Applied Economics and Statistics ( RIPAE&S )
Besides the Range & District Statistical Offices, there is a statistical Training
Institute named as the Regional Institute of Planning, Applied Economics and Statistics
under the administrative control of Directorate of Economics & Statistics. This
institute imparts in-services training to the Statistical Personnel of various
categories working in different Departments of Government and Public Sector undertakings.
OBJECTIVE
The Directorate of Economics and Statistics is responsible for collection, processing and publication of data on diverse socio-economic activities of the State.
The main
functions of the DES can be broadly classified as follows:

Collection,
compilation, processing, analysis and dissemination of various types of statistical data relating
to socio Economic and Agricultural activities in the State.

Improvement of
quality, scope and usefulness of the
statistical and economic data available in the State.
F
Collection of
data through well designed sample survey on socio economic matters and formulating
estimates of agricultural production, yield rate and
land utilization of various crops by large scale sample surveys.
F
Research and
analytical studies relating to economic social and financial matters in the State and
making a rational evaluation of progress achieved in
these sectors.
F
Statistical and
economic advice to different Departments of Government and to the Heads of Departments.
F
Liasion between
Statistical Organisation of other states and the Centre in Statistical matters pertaining to the State of Orissa.
F
Dissemination of
Statistical data through periodical reports,
publications and correspondences.
F
Routine
collection of official statistics as
by-products of administration.
F
Training of
Statistical personnel in different organization of the State.
