·   The Directorate of Economics & Statistics of Orissa was originally created as a small cell under the Planning & Reconstruction department in 1950.

 

·        This Statistical cell continued to function under the Planning & Reconstruction department,  till 1956.


·        During 1956, this cell was transferred to the control of Finance Department.

 

·        This cell was declared as a separate Heads of Department, in the name of Bureau of Statistics & Economics on 01.05.1958.

 

·        Realising its functional association with planning Machinery, the  State Govt. transferred back this Heads of Deptartment again to the administrative control of Planning & Coordination Department during 1961.

 

·        This organization was renamed as Directorate of Economics & Statistics, in the year 1987.

 

·        The Directorate of Economics & Statistics is at present  the nodal statistical organization in the State.
